Classes with the WEA

I am currently running a variety of online classes with the WEA ( Workers Education Association), the Association runs a variety of classes covering many skills and topics. New for 2025 there will be a selection of long courses and short tasters available over the the spring and summer periods. Long courses run generally on a Wednesday or a Friday. Short Courses when available will run on various days. The WEA are also able to help out with your fees in special circumstances.

Courses for Carers with the WEA

12/05/2025 – 10.30am- 12.30pm Care 2: Create and Craft Simple Handmade Books

This online single session short course has been designed for carers, former carers and those who are being cared for. Take a bit of time out of your day, to learn a simple new skill in a fun and relaxed environment. The session will take you through some simple handmade book making techniques and requires minimal materials that you will mostly have to hand in a domestic environment. Learning new skills helps to boost creativity, problem solving and reduce stress levels, and one of these short courses is ideal to help increase these skills. Long Courses

02/05/2025 – 18/07/2025 – Textiles and Fashion: Make a Victorian Style Embroidered Patchwork Journal Cover For Improvers – This online course is a great introduction to gaining more confidence in creating your own pieces of textile work with embroidery and basic journal cover making. The course is aimed at improvers that have a basic knowledge of hand embroidery and would like to combine stitch techniques, to create a journal cover that would fit the size of an A5 journal You will have the opportunity to come up with your own ideas with tutor guidance using the techniques you will be learning throughout the sessions; each learner will have a unique composition at the of the course. Short Courses/Tasters.

24/02/25 – 31/03/25 – Textiles and Fashion: : Improvers creative textile pictures with embroidery letters. This online course is a great way to gain more confidence in creating your own pieces of textile work with fabric and stitching and adding in using lettering to create a journal theme. The course is suitable for improvers who would like to expand their knowledge of creative textiles and uses simple stitching to add texture and lettering details. You will have the opportunity to come up with your own ideas and create a textile picture using the techniques you will be learning throughout the sessions. Every Monday for six sessions. 28/02/25 – 04/04/25 – Art Practical: Mindful Hand Embroidery – Make a Hand Embroidered Mandala for improvers. The course is great for beginners and improvers who would like to increase their knowledge of hand embroidery and mix up basic and intermediate stitch techniques. This online course is a great mix of simple learning and mindful stitching to create a sense of wellbeing and relaxation throughout the course. Every Friday 11.00am – 1.00pm for 6 sessions.
