I wrote my first article for the winter edition of a community newspaper initiative called Mudlarking in 2020. I decided to write it as a complimentry feature to the live craft along that I was about to do with Cheltenham Borough Homes, pictured here as well. The key focus is on using materials that might be available around the home such as old jeans, and making a template from cardboard or using a cookie cutter.
My second article in the Mudlarking community newspaper can be seen in the top corner of the photo. As a keen upcycler I decided to focus on how to turn an old t-shirt into a fringed scarf, this is one of my favourite upcycles as if you use a well washed t-shirt the fabric is lovely and soft.
My third article to be accepted for the paper is about an online workshop that I went on earlier in the year. The artist Alinah Azadeh created a community based project called “Making medals for everyday courage” and New Brewery Arts in Cirencester hosted a zoom workshop to show how to make them and discuss who they might be for.
The Newspaper is a community initiative that is funded by National Lottery Community Funding and is run by We Create a local art action group. Find out more about the history of the paper and what projects are being run now by clicking on the link above.
